India Fights Back with the Bat: In response, India showed great resilience, ending Day 3 at 301 for 5 wickets, trailing England’s first innings total by just 86 runs.
The day’s batting belonged to India’s top order. Opening batsman KL Rahul played a superb innings, scoring a composed century (100 runs) – his second Test hundred at Lord’s! Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant also provided crucial support, hitting a quickfire 74 runs before being brilliantly run out by a direct hit from England captain Ben Stokes just before lunch.
Earlier in India’s innings, Jofra Archer, making his much-anticipated return to Test cricket, made an immediate impact by picking up a wicket on his third ball. Chris Woakes also chipped in with a key dismissal of India’s captain Shubman Gill.
As stumps were called on Day 3, Ravindra Jadeja (32 not out) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (18 not out) were steadily building a partnership, keeping India’s hopes alive of gaining a first-innings lead.
